Eco-Building Update

The Eco-building is owned and run by Torfaen County Borough Council and is currently being offered as an environmentally friendly conference facility and education centre. Completed in April 2006 the Eco-building was built using European funding through the project Encourage. This project is recognised for its work on improving environmental management on industrial estates throughout Europe through highlighting sustainable building techniques and implementing landscape improvements.

The friendly, environmentally trained staff are available to give guided tours of the building. Able to hold a maximum of 35 people, the building itself is extremely comfortable and welcoming and has been highly praised for its pleasant atmosphere by many who visit, making it a perfect conference facility. During the warmer months, the patio to the rear of the building extends the available space or simply adds a change of scenery for those wishing to break from their conference surroundings during lunch.

We are proud to state that the Eco-building is the first Fair Trade Workplace in Wales and Fair Trade refreshments are therefore available. The eco-building is a non-smoking building. This supports the councils healthy lifestyle attitude, which is reinforced by the availability of healthy menus offered to visitors at the eco-building. The eco-building is also working towards accreditation to the Green Dragon Environmental Standard, which is an effective way for any organisation to manage its environmental performance.

Visitors to the eco-building are always encouraged to car share, use public transport or come by bicycle whenever possible. Bicycle storage is not a problem as there is a bicycle rack to the side of the building.
